Summary

On a day that started like any other…

Mia had everything: a loving family, a gorgeous, adoring boyfriend, and a bright future full of music and full of choices。 Then, in an instant, almost all of that is taken from her。 Caught between life and death, between a happy past and an unknowable future, Mia spends one critical day contemplating the one decision she has left—the most important decision she’ll ever make。

Simultaneously tragic and hopeful, this is a romantic, riveting and ultimately uplifting story about memory, music, living, and dying。

I read the novel If I Stay by Gayle Forman。 The genre of this book is young adult fiction and romance。 The plot is about a 17-year-old girl who experiences a traumatic event。 She recently applied for the prestigious school, Juilliard, where she hopes to pursue her dreams of being a cellist。 Mia also meets the love of her life, Adam, who also shares a passion for music as a guitarist。 But one day, on a snowy afternoon, Mia and her family experienced a car wreck that changed their lives。 Mia’s mot I read the novel If I Stay by Gayle Forman。 The genre of this book is young adult fiction and romance。 The plot is about a 17-year-old girl who experiences a traumatic event。 She recently applied for the prestigious school, Juilliard, where she hopes to pursue her dreams of being a cellist。 Mia also meets the love of her life, Adam, who also shares a passion for music as a guitarist。 But one day, on a snowy afternoon, Mia and her family experienced a car wreck that changed their lives。 Mia’s mother, father, and brother fail to live from the wreck。 Mia is left in a coma where she must make a difficult decision of “staying”or “going”。 I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance and sad novel。 It really makes you reflect and reminds you to value your time on earth。 Read If I Stay if you want to find out what Mia will decide for her future。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This was a super quick, super easy read for me。 I wondered if the dark subject matter might overrule the laid-back feel that I generally get from YA, but that wasn’t the case- I think perhaps because a lot of the story involved flashbacks to happier times。 Honestly I probably would have given this book two stars (which sounds harsh but it means “It was OK” and that’s my overall opinion), but the moment when Mia realises her brother is dead… that got me。 Not in a tearful way, but when a sentence This was a super quick, super easy read for me。 I wondered if the dark subject matter might overrule the laid-back feel that I generally get from YA, but that wasn’t the case- I think perhaps because a lot of the story involved flashbacks to happier times。 Honestly I probably would have given this book two stars (which sounds harsh but it means “It was OK” and that’s my overall opinion), but the moment when Mia realises her brother is dead… that got me。 Not in a tearful way, but when a sentence punches you in the chest。 That single moment earned this book an extra star。 If I Stay is nothing groundbreaking but it was simple and sweet, and I do find myself tempted to see what occurs in the sequel。 。。。more

One characteristic I admire about modern YA is the economy of words in which its major authors convey deep emotion and a strong story。 If I Stay is a prime example。 The main story events take place over the course of a 24-hour period, during which the main character, Mia, suffers terrible trauma following a car accident and watches, outside her body, as medical personnel struggle to save her life。 Backstory loops away from the main storyline as Mia recalls her parents, her younger brother, and h One characteristic I admire about modern YA is the economy of words in which its major authors convey deep emotion and a strong story。 If I Stay is a prime example。 The main story events take place over the course of a 24-hour period, during which the main character, Mia, suffers terrible trauma following a car accident and watches, outside her body, as medical personnel struggle to save her life。 Backstory loops away from the main storyline as Mia recalls her parents, her younger brother, and her boyfriend, and begins to realize she has to choose between staying in a life drastically and painfully changed, or leaving for whatever comes after。 。。。more

Ha sido una lectura amena y me ha ido bien para escapar un poco del agobio de la temporada de examenes。 Me gustan las reflexiones que hay y como se narra todo。 Tengo ganas de leer la continuación

I loved this book! Read it after I saw the film and the book is so much better, I laugh, cried and it also had my favourite thing a music playlist to listen to while you read the book。

Back when this book was in its peak popularity, I was going through my whole “not like other girls phase” and even though I read many books that were wildly popular (I was a John Green STAN so really I had no room to talk) I somehow decided that this book was totally stupid and refused to read it。 However, a couple weeks ago I saw this book at Walmart, at the nice little clearance price of 4 bucks, and since I’m never one to pass a steal I decided to buy it。 Man! This book pleasantly surprised me! I sat down and read it in about 5 hours, and was incredibly entertained the whole way through。 I saw many people say it was boring, but frankly, I found it very engaging。Gayle Forman writes simply, but it’s super nice to read, and I could fully feel the emotions she conveyed。 The characters were likable and I enjoyed all their relationships。 Now for the bad stuff, and it can mainly be summarized in, “yikes, that’s cheesy” I mean come on that whole playing each other like instruments thing? I cringed the whole way through like Jesus, who does that? I also found Mia’s family annoyingly perfect, perfectly cool and awesome parents who are super chill with everything and like rock music cause they’re so awesome and perfectly joke with their daughter, they feel like a cool parent archetype, and her brother is just a perfect nice lil bro too, it honestly just gets tiresome。 At first I thought that maybe it was intentional and it was Mia looking back on only the good things about them, rose coloured glasses and all, but frankly it doesn’t seem likely。 Also I didn’t cry but that’s a me thing lolOverall this book was nice, super entertaining and easy to read, I’m definitely reading the sequel。 。。。more

I started listening to this while running errands in the car with my teens。 After the first few minutes they all asked to skip it。 I agreed。 So on we go。

I really enjoyed this book! Their are several things that I would change about it like sometimes it got confusing because it doesn't have chapters and one minuet its a normal book and the next you in one of Mia's flashbacks。 It also got to be a little repetitive at some points or I just lost my focus in the book。 Other than that it was an amazing book it was really detailed and I felt like I was living Mia's life。 If I Stay I would say is a more on the romance and like sad kind of book but it ha I really enjoyed this book! Short quick read。 Just “okay”。 The book covers the events of about 24hrs or so。 A tragic event happens and the main character Mia is floating outside her body。 Not my thing。 Most of the book is her observing current events and flashing back to happier times while deciding if she should stay。 Could be triggering and have some definite tear jerker moments。

Absolutely loved!! It was a short read and I enjoyed every second of it

I chose this book as an independent reading book for a class and it seemed very interesting based on the description and reviews from when it came out。 It started off interesting but then it was hard for me to get through the middle of the book because it was kind of slow-paced and boring。 The ending was very predictable for me but it was still a good read。 Even though it wasn't for me, I would recommend this book to people who like realistic fiction or romance novels。 I chose this book as an independent reading book for a class and it seemed very interesting based on the description and reviews from when it came out。 It started off interesting but then it was hard for me to get through the middle of the book because it was kind of slow-paced and boring。 The ending was very predictable for me but it was still a good read。 Even though it wasn't for me, I would recommend this book to people who like realistic fiction or romance novels。 。。。more
